Jayne Farleigh

Cyanotype and Mixed Media Painter

Jayne Farleigh is inspired to create her mixed media paintings from walks along Devon and Cornwall’s coast and moorland. Jayne states: “For me when it comes to landscape painting I find to truly connect to a place there is nothing more emotionally grounding than to physically spend time there and paint.

To really get a feel for the energy. To see where the light is coming from and what it touches most brightly. To feel the wind (and sometimes rain!) on my face. To hear the chatter of Devon and Cornwall wildlife, or people going about their daily lives. Even the smells can make a difference to my mixed media paintings. In that place I am often in awe of the colours that I can see, really see, the beautiful Devon and Cornwall landscapes before me and how they unfold in my paintings. “

Over many years of practice Jayne Farleigh has been consistently experimenting and refining her mixed media techniques using layering in her paintings with different colours, media, and textures.

There’s nothing Jayne Farleigh enjoys more than experimenting with new materials and different mark-making to achieve the most nostalgic and atmospheric mixed media paintings.

In her cyanotype and mixed media landscape paintings here at Cider Press Gallery Jayne is looking for a connection of energy between the sky, water and earth. She is showing the viewer the power running through the layers of the scene before her. We often see what is happening above ground level. Jayne is exploring the energy beneath our feet. How the light and water feed this energy, which in turn keeps the life cycle going.

People love Jayne’s mixed media cyanotype paintings featuring well known local, Devon scenes lit up magically by moonlight.
