Mixed media painting masterclass

This masterclass will be hosted by Pam Neaves, artist and art gallery owner.
Wednesday 14th January 2025
11.00am – 16:00 (with 30 mins lunch and short breaks, refreshments provided)
Cider Press Gallery.

You will need: photographs, magazine pages, colour samples, and small textile scraps (optional).
Provided for you: Canvas/paper surface, gesso, acrylic paints, inks, brushes, palette knives, adhesives, glue/matte medium, scissors, old book pages, some fabric/textile off-cuts, basic mark-making tools.

Some materials will be provided but so so can get the most out of the day and work with meaningful source materials I suggest you bring:

• 5-10 copies of personal photographs (I recommend colour copies from a copy shop) and/or magazine images you love
  * Colour samples or swatches (fabric/textile, paint chips) if you have them
  * Small pieces of textiles or fabric scraps (even from old clothing) you don’t mind cutting/torn/wearing
  * Optional: old book pages, packaging/cardboard, interesting found papers
  * Sketchbook or notebook + pencil for planning
  * Apron or old shirt (mixed media can get messy!

By the end of the masterclass you will:

* Understand how to combine different media (wet/dry, fabric/paper, found materials) into cohesive pieces of art.

* Gain confidence in layering strategies: building up backgrounds, integrating collage elements, adding mark-making, adding finishing touches.

* Have created an original mixed-media piece combining your own source materials with new media and learnt how to progress it further.

* Be equipped with ideas, techniques and next-step suggestions to continue your creative journey beyond the masterclass.
