What is Own Art?

Own Art is a national initiative that makes buying contemporary art and craft affordable by providing interest-free credit for the purchase of original work.

Want to buy with Own Art?

Own Art makes buying art easy and affordable by letting you spread the cost of your purchase over 10 months with an interest-free* loan. Own Art loans can be used for the purchase of any kind of original, contemporary art or craft from paintings and drawings to sculpture and limited editions.

How much can I borrow?

Own Art loans through us allow you to borrow from as little as £100 up to a maximum of £2,500 towards the purchase of works of art by living artists. You can choose to finance all or just part of your purchase. You cannot apply for multiple Own Art loans to cover a single purchase, although multiple items can be bought with one loan. There’s no deposit necessary (although you can pay as large or small a deposit as you like).

How do I apply?

Once you’ve found the piece of work that you want to buy you can apply for an Own Art loan to finance your purchase either online when you check out, over the phone, or in person in the gallery. The loan application process normally takes less than 10 minutes. Once you’ve given all the information required you’ll get an instant decision.

Own Art is available to all UK residents over the age of 18, subject to status. This means that you must be able to meet the following criteria to be approved for a loan:

● Over the age of 18
● A permanent UK resident
● Working at least 16 hours a week (employed or self-employed)
● A retired person in receipt of a pension

If you are not working but are married to or living with a partner who does have a full-time job, then you may still apply provided that your partner is happy for their employment details to be included on your application form. If you are applying for the loan in person you’ll need to have proof of ID with you in the form of a driver’s licence or utility bill, along with a credit or debit card as proof of signature. When your application is approved we’ll need you to sign some paperwork. You can then either take your painting right away or we’ll deliver.

You will receive a welcome letter from Own Art’s finance partner Novuna Personal Finance and following this your 10 monthly payments will be collected from your account by direct debit. This usually starts about four weeks after you’ve made your purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What kind of artwork can I purchase using Own Art?
Own Art loans are designed for works created by living artists, priced between £100 and £25,000. This includes original pieces as well as limited editions (up to 150 in the edition).
2. Is Own Art available outside the UK?
The scheme is only available to UK residents aged 18 and over (subject to a successful application). Sadly, customers outside the UK cannot apply.
3. Am I eligible if I’m a student or currently not working?
To qualify, you need to be employed or self-employed for at least 16 hours per week. Students or those who are unemployed unfortunately won’t meet the criteria for an Own Art loan.
4. Can I use Own Art to buy more than one piece?
Yes — provided each artwork meets the scheme’s eligibility, you can combine several purchases into one Own Art agreement, up to a total of £25,000.
5. When will I receive my artwork after applying?
Once your finance application is approved, we’ll process your order straight away. Delivery times depend on the artwork and can be found on our [Delivery Information page].
If your application is unsuccessful, you’re welcome to reorder and pay by another method — or simply call us on [Gallery phone number] and we’ll be happy to arrange payment and dispatch.
