Katherine Austin

Since 2014, glass has been both her medium and my obsession. Katherine’s journey began with stained glass, as she found herself captivated by its interplay of light and colour. Over time, Katherine explored the fluidity of fused glass before finally discovering the dynamic, transformative world of blown glass – where she states she truly found her voice.

Katherine finds that working with glass is both a collaboration and a challenge. Whilst glass blowing – its molten state demands intuition, speed, and respect, she loves the limitless opportunities for expression. Drawing much of her inspiration for her colourful, glass blown forms from sedimentary, Devon, rock formations—their layered histories, shifting textures, and the slow, deliberate processes that shape them over time. These natural forms inform her aesthetic and serve as a grounding contrast to the immediacy of glassblowing.
Katherine strives to echo the patience of geology found here in Devon, through a medium born of fire and movement. Each piece of her glass art becomes a dialogue between natural history and human touch—fragile yet enduring, organic yet meticulously crafted.
