Yew and pine contemporary lidded sculpture I

An intriguing blend of natural and crafted materials in a minimalist design. 

This finely sculpted wooden bowl or container, suspended gracefully on a sleek, black, curved stand. The stand itself is smooth, polished, and almost fluid in shape created in painted, locally sourced oak wood resembling a delicate, elongated ‘S’ or a stylized wave. It provides a striking contrast to the natural wood grain of the bowl, which is warm and organic in light, rich tones and swirling patterns in the yew.

The handturned, bowl has a lid with a small knob at the top, echoing the same wood grain and offering a sense of completeness and functionality. The way it is suspended—held in place by two subtle horizontal, rods connected to the stand- suggests a sense of balance and contemplation, as if inviting the viewer to appreciate both the wood’s natural beauty and the precision of the craftsmanship.

This piece suggests harmony between nature (the wood) and human-made elegance (the stand and structure). It could also evoke ideas of nurturing or containment, with the bowl representing a vessel of life or essence, elevated and supported by the stand.
