Where the sun sets

This Devon landscape oil painting by Louise Kelly captures the quiet drama of a sunset unfolding over rolling countryside. The scene is divided almost evenly between land and sky, with the sky taking visual dominance through its striking contrasts.

A deep, brooding layer of stormy blue-grey clouds stretches across the upper half of the painting, creating a sense of weight and atmosphere. Beneath this heavy cloud cover, a band of soft, glowing light breaks through—pale yellows and hints of warm gold filtering horizontally across the sky.
