Free Range
A calming and colourful, Devon watercolour landscape painting. The composition is divided into several horizontal bands, creating a sense of depth and distance. The sky takes up the top portion of the image, transitioning from a light blue at the top to a pale lavender in the middle, and then back to a slightly darker blue at the horizon.
Below the sky is a band of a distant landscape, featuring a dark green line of trees and hills. Beneath that is a large field of bright yellow-green, a typical Devon, crop field, with subtle horizontal bands suggesting rows of plants. A small tree with a dark green crown is positioned on the left of the field.
In the mid-ground, a dark green hedge or line of bushes separates the yellow-green field from a foreground of darker green grass. A line of white sheep is visible in the distance, grazing. A fence with small posts runs along the edge of the field in the mid-ground. The lower portion of the image is dominated by the green field, which is dappled with a subtle, textured finish.
The overall colour palette is soft, natural and romantic with the blues, greens, and yellows blending together. The watercolour technique gives a sense of lightness and airiness to the image – typical of Eleanor King. The painting evokes a sense of tranquility and the beauty of the South Devon countryside.
Framed behind non-reflective glass so you’re not distracted by reflections in the glass.
