Figurative Bust in Tenmoku Glaze – 2
Hand-sculptured, figurative, ceramic bust in a Tenmoku Glaze, fired in an anagama kiln in cream and pink.
An anagama kiln is a distinct style of Japanese wood-fired kiln that is celebrated for its extended and meticulous firing procedure, often spanning multiple days. Potters fill the kiln with unglazed ceramics and using wood as their primary fuel source to heat it to high temperatures, typically around 1300°C. Toward the end of the firing process, they may introduce salt, which contributes to the creation of unique surface finishes. This firing method is highly dynamic, as the interplay of flames and ash with the pottery leads to one-of-a-kind and frequently unpredictable results in colour and texture.
Dimensions are: 14cm tall x 9cm wide x 5.5cm deep
