Devon Open Studios – 7th – 22nd September

This is a headline event held by the Devon Artists Network, held annually in September throughout Devon. In 2023 Devon Open Studios showcased over 330 artists at 199 venues making it Devon’s largest open studio event. Over the 16 days of Devon Open Studios, artists and makers across the county of Devon will open their creative spaces, showcasing a huge range of artwork including original paintings, sculpture, ceramics, glass, jewellery, metal, wood, prints and more.

You’ll find Open Studios in an array of locations including cafes, art galleries, garden studios, homes, high streets and industrial estates all across the county of Devon.

This our second year hosting Devon Open Studios from the Cider Press Gallery, we are delighted to be showcasing the work of local established mixed media artists Diannah Lowry and Pam Neaves.

Diannah Lowry is a contemporary painter (and singer/song-writer) from Australia, now living in Devon. Diannah studied Art at Sydney University and also has a PhD in Psychology. After working as an academic in both Australia and the UK, she left the university sector to focus solely on her Art.

Diannah works across a broad subject matter including her personal responses to our beloved Devon landscapes. She aims to capture the emotion, movement and atmosphere of her environment, as well as painting intuitively, exploring and reflecting on our ‘internal spaces’ Diannah Lowry states: “I hope that by doing so I connect with you the viewer and you see something within my work that resonates.

Pam Neaves – when she’s not working in, promoting the gallery and being a mum, Pam Neaves creates vibrant, mixed media artwork in layers from sketches, using her own photographs and items collected on her travels, which have a resonance with the places she’s visited.

Pam uses colour and texture to create depth, project emotion and the energy from her inspirational travels.

Pam has lived in Devon since 2014 and has stepped back into her love of travelling and enjoys bringing memories of those travels to the viewers of her art as well as sharing other local artists work within the gallery.

“Travelling provides a sense of freedom, a step into the unknown, excites the mind and provides an array of influences and a foundation for my work when I return to my studio”

Pam will be travelling to Santorini, one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea, devastated in the 16th century BC by a volcanic eruption changing its rugged landscape. Now known for its white washed, cubiform houses and blue domed churches. The small towns overlook the sea, smaller islands to the West and beaches made up of black, red and white lava pebbles. Pam hopes to share her reflections and responses to her visit here during Open Studios this year.

How do you find where you want to visit during Devon Open Studios? All the artists taking part are published in a directory that’s available from most local cafes, libraries and shops and they’ll be available to download from the Devon Open Studios website nearer the time too!

We’ll have plenty of brochures here at the Cider Press Gallery so you’re welcome to call in for one!

We have plenty of parking available on site near the gallery here at the cider press centre and there’s a cafe and toilets too! Cash, Card and instalment payments accepted.
