We will be hosting local artists Pam Neaves and Julie Talbot Dunn for this Open Studios event, where 20+ artists across Totnes and Dartington will be opening their studio doors to share their work.
You can pick up a FREE list of artists taking part in this year’s event including a map of their locations from venues throughout Totnes and Dartington including here at the gallery or you can download a printable version here.
Pam Neaves – when she’s not working in, promoting the gallery and being a mum, Pam Neaves creates vibrant, mixed media artwork in layers from sketches, using her own photographs and items collected on her travels, which have a resonance with the places she’s visited.
Pam uses colour and texture to create depth, project emotion and the energy from her inspirational travels.
Pam has lived in Devon since 2014 and has stepped back into her love of travelling and enjoys bringing memories of those travels to the viewers of her art as well as sharing other local artists work within the gallery.
“Travelling provides a sense of freedom, a step into the unknown, excites the mind and provides an array of influences and a foundation for my work when I return to my studio”
Julie Talbot Dunn also works in textures and layers in her mixed media paintings . Evoking calmness and immersing you in Devon’s picturesque landscapes with captivating and dramatic scenes.
Her working life was spent in publishing, graphic design and editorial in York, Exeter and London.
Now settled in Dartington, Devon, Julie’s work is primarily mixed media abstract, with a focus on the magic and beauty of Dartmoor, the mists, textures and the mystery of past meeting present
“I love working on large canvases, using acrylics and collage to create a sense of the surrounding landscapes. There is great versatility in using acrylics – the rich colours, the brush strokes and also it suits me to be able to work quickly!”
Both artists have firm roots in West Yorkshire – Julie Talbot Dunn trained in Graphic Design and Fine Art at Jacob Kramer college in Leeds in 1972, Pam Neaves was born close by in 1978 and completed her Graphic Design degree at Bradford College of Art in 2000 (One of only two higher education facilities to offer on site work experience alongside learning) Her first job culminated in being a studio manager of a Marketing agency in Leeds city centre, after two years moved to a larger agency in Staffordshire then travelled South to Devon to bring her son up closer to the sea.
Coming together for Totnes and Dartington Open Studios this year has enabled both artists to reveal invisible ribbons of connection between their thoughts, creative styles and composition. Both having a graphical understanding and passion for their surroundings being unveiled in their compositions, use of perspective, textures and layering techniques. Julie and Pam are excited to share their latest work with you here at Cider Press Gallery, Dartington, Totnes. Their work will be on show here for a further month if you visit outside of the Open Studios event.
There is ample parking available on site and there’s a cafe and toilets too.
